Helping Children Face their Fears in Divorce

Today's children face more fearful situations than most of us faced as children. With the age of computers, texting, and social networking in general, kids are at risk of hearing news and general media issues that can make them freightened. With the rise in divorce across our country, children are apt to be afraid of the "unkown" that is associated with divorce of their parents.

According to Mery Taylor, a child psychologist who practices at the Children's Hospital of Orange County, children should be told that their fears are normal.

It is also suggested that parents limit the child's exposure to social networking and the media in general so as to prevent further emotions on the part of the child. Although it is almost impossible to keep all forms of media out of a child's life, it can usually be achieved with a little ingenuity.

The child custody massacre in Seal Beach yesterday has caused fear in children who have heard about it and were familiar with some of the eight victims. This was the affect of a terrible child custody battle that lead a father wanting visitation with his son to turn against his ex wife at a hair salon, taking the lives of eight innocent people.
